It makes sense to question the results we share. A 30:1 carb-to-insulin ratio is basically unheard-of... But we do get those numbers with our method.
When Dana first saw us talking about our coaching clients’ results, she didn’t believe us.
“I worked for a Diabetes organization… and saw you had posted a story [on Instagram] about someone whose A1c was 5.4 with type 1 diabetes, and I was like ‘that’s gotta be not true, like no way’.”
But she was intrigued. She ended up buying the Mastering Diabetes book and reading it, and she decided to give our method a try for herself. When she did, she couldn’t believe what happened and was totally blown away by the results. She became one of the success stories that she’d originally thought wasn’t possible.
In this article, I’m going to explain how she and so many of our other clients achieve these “impossible” numbers.
First, let’s back up for a minute to give you a little background information for this story. Dana had been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 3. For most of her life she had the classic “roller coaster blood sugar.” Because of this, her diabetes made her anxious and overwhelmed on a daily basis.

Dana was recently married and she and her husband were planning to start a family, but was afraid that dream might never happen. After years of struggling no matter how hard she tried to better manage her blood sugar, she was beginning to lose hope that she would ever get her blood sugar stable enough to support a healthy pregnancy.
So she was willing to give something new a try, even if she was super skeptical. That’s how she wound up joining our 6-week blood sugar transformation challenge.

The Science Behind the Success Stories
So let’s explore and explain why and how we can get these kinds of results.

If you have any form of diabetes, the root issue is insulin resistance. Insulin resistance means your body's cells have stopped responding well to insulin. Insulin is like a key that helps sugar (glucose) move from the bloodstream—which is where it would be after being broken down from the food you’ve eaten—into your cells for energy. When the insulin key stops working properly, the sugar can’t get into your cells so it stays in your bloodstream, causing high blood sugar levels. When you are living with diabetes, whether it is type 1 or type 2, that’s what is happening inside your body.
The goal, if you want to reverse the disease process of diabetes, is to reverse insulin resistance and therefore increase insulin sensitivity. That’s what Dana did, and here’s how it happened.
1 – Clear Out Your Cells

First of all, insulin resistance is caused by a buildup of fat inside your cells. The science term for this is intramyocellular lipids. That’s what blocks insulin from being able to key open your cells – the cell’s insulin receptors are clogged up with fat!
When you cut out processed foods and high fat foods, your body begins clearing out these fat stores from your muscle and liver cells. And over time, that allows insulin signaling to be restored.
2 – Help Insulin Work More Efficiently

When insulin can now get glucose out of the bloodstream and into your cells more efficiently, this improves your insulin sensitivity. Basically this means that you can eat more carbohydrates while using less insulin, because when your body breaks that meal down into glucose, the insulin can get that glucose into your cells to be stored, rather than having it lingering in your bloodstream too long causing high blood sugar levels.
3 – Stabilize Your Blood Sugar

This also means that your time-in-range will be better because your body isn’t going through the swings of high and low blood sugar levels now that the body is able to carry out its natural processes more effectively.
4 – Boost Your Energy

Like Dana, many people mention that their energy levels go up after they start following this method. This is due to a number of various factors that may be at play to varying degrees, such as that:
- Your body is built to run on glucose. That’s the preferred energy source for most of your cells and body functions, so when you have a more steady supply, your body will naturally have more energy!
- Having unstable blood sugar can be very draining on the body to experience the rollercoaster of highs and lows, which was Dana’s experience before starting our program.
- Your mitochondria, which if you remember from your 6th grade science class are “the powerhouse of the cell,” also use glucose more efficiently when you eat a low-fat plant-based whole food diet, which leads to higher energy output.
- Whereas animal foods and processed foods create a state of chronic inflammation in the body, making it work harder and feel sluggish; the diet we recommend is high in fiber and antioxidants, which reduces inflammation in the body and frees up energy to be used for your daily activities.
So that’s what was happening behind the scenes to create Dana’s results. That’s what was happening inside her body, and that’s what gave her, and hundreds of our other clients, the ability to dramatically improve their diabetes health and take back their life in a very short period of time.
