Meet Jamie. Before joining the Mastering Diabetes Coaching Program, she felt like her body was working against her. Daily fatigue, frequent headaches, and persistent brain fog made it hard to stay focused, motivated, or consistent with exercise. Even though she cared deeply about her health, most days felt like a struggle.
At the same time, her lab results were quietly moving in the wrong direction. Her A1c had climbed into the prediabetes range, her cholesterol continued to rise, and her weight kept increasing despite repeated efforts to eat better. Jamie also lives with Hashimoto’s disease and takes thyroid medication for life. The idea of adding diabetes or heart medication on top of that felt discouraging. She wanted to feel better, not simply manage another diagnosis.
She knew something had to change.
Living With Prediabetes, Hashimoto’s, and Constant Fatigue
Jamie lives in California and had been diagnosed with prediabetes before joining Mastering Diabetes. She was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease in college and had learned firsthand how challenging it can be to manage a chronic condition.
By the time she found the program, exhaustion and mental fog were no longer occasional. They were part of her daily life. Headaches were frequent. Exercise was difficult to sustain. Even small lifestyle changes felt exhausting and rarely led to meaningful improvement.
Her lab work reflected what she was feeling. Her A1c continued to creep upward. Her cholesterol rose higher. And her weight increased steadily over time. Emotionally, the hardest part was knowing she was already committed to lifelong thyroid medication and desperately wanting to avoid another long-term prescription.
When Paleo Stopped Working and the Numbers Kept Rising
Before discovering Mastering Diabetes, Jamie followed a paleo style diet. At first, it seemed promising and gave her hope. But the results did not last.
Over time, her cholesterol began to climb. Her A1c continued rising. The numbers she was working so hard to improve moved in the wrong direction instead.
What made this especially frustrating was that she genuinely believed she was doing the right things. She was trying to avoid processed foods, eat clean, and follow common nutrition advice. Yet her health markers kept worsening. That disconnect made her realize something deeper needed to change.
Discovering a New Way to Address Insulin Resistance
Jamie decided to read the Mastering Diabetes book before seeking coaching. The explanation of insulin resistance immediately stood out. Instead of focusing on restriction, the program explained how improving insulin sensitivity addresses the root cause of rising blood sugar and metabolic decline.
When her lab results continued to worsen and her weight remained stubborn, she decided to stop experimenting on her own and seek structured support. Joining the coaching program gave her clarity, education, and accountability, something she had never experienced before.
For the first time, she felt she had a clear path forward.
Learning to Eat Differently Without Feeling Deprived
One of the biggest challenges for Jamie was letting go of meat and the belief that animal protein was necessary for good health. She had eaten meat her entire life and had been taught that carbohydrates were dangerous for blood sugar.
The shift felt uncomfortable at first.
But as she began building meals around beans, fruits, potatoes, rice, vegetables, and greens, something changed. Her energy started to improve. She felt satisfied and full rather than deprived. Foods she had avoided for years became staples again.
As she watched her blood sugar and overall energy improve, her fear of carbohydrates faded. Instead of eating less, she learned how to eat better.

Energy and Daily Life Began to Feel Easier
Before starting the program, Jamie often felt so fatigued that getting through the day felt overwhelming. Working, exercising, preparing meals, and managing daily responsibilities drained her completely.
After changing how she ate and building consistent habits, her energy stabilized. She began working full days, going to the gym, coming home to cook dinner, and still having energy in the evening. She added Pilates to her routine and noticed she no longer crashed halfway through the day.
The headaches that had once been part of her daily routine began to disappear. For someone living with Hashimoto’s, that consistency felt life changing.

Jamie’s Before and After Results
After three months in the Mastering Diabetes Coaching Program, Jamie’s improvements were clear.
Header | October 2025 | December 2025 |
|---|---|---|
A1c (%) | 6.0 | 5.4 |
Cholesterol | 250-300 | 200 |
Weight (lbs) | 228 | 190 |
Medication | Triglyceride Medication | NONE |

She also experienced noticeably less joint discomfort and inflammation as her weight came down and her eating habits stabilized.
Jamie had set a goal of losing 50 pounds. Losing 40 pounds in a relatively short period surprised her, especially because the process did not feel extreme. The weight loss felt like a natural outcome of improving insulin sensitivity rather than something she had to force.
Discovering That Sustainable Movement Can Be Simple
Another major shift for Jamie was how she viewed exercise. In the past, she believed that health improvement required intense workouts and exhausting routines. When she could not maintain that pace, she felt discouraged.
Inside the program, she learned that consistent, moderate movement could be highly effective. Most days, she walks on the treadmill for about 30 minutes. She lifts weights occasionally and attends Pilates classes twice per week. She goes to the gym around three times per week and focuses on habits that fit into her real life.
This approach removed pressure and made consistency possible.
Getting Off Medication and Feeling Back in Control
One of Jamie’s personal goals was to discontinue a triglyceride-lowering medication. Through the changes she made, she was able to fully wean off that prescription.
For someone already managing a lifelong thyroid condition, removing even one medication felt empowering. It reinforced that daily habits can meaningfully influence long-term health.
Finding Foods She Can Rely On
Jamie’s daily meals look very different now. Most mornings start with a smoothie made with strawberries, blueberries, banana, white beans, and a small amount of hemp seeds. What once felt unusual is now one of her most dependable meals.
For lunches and dinners, she rotates simple dishes such as three bean chili, quinoa chili, and mushroom and wild rice soup. These meals make planning easier and reduce decision fatigue.
She also learned how to eat out confidently by choosing beans, rice, potatoes, vegetables, and salads. Food no longer feels stressful. It feels supportive.

How Accountability Changed Everything
This was not a small adjustment. It was a complete shift in how Jamie ate and how she approached her health. Having coaching, structure, and community support made the early months far easier than trying to change on her own. Accountability helped her stay consistent long enough for real progress to occur.
What Jamie Wants Others to Know
Jamie believes that people living with prediabetes, rising cholesterol, stubborn weight, chronic fatigue, or autoimmune conditions should not feel hopeless. She knows how difficult the first steps can feel, but she also knows how powerful it is to finally feel better.
With the right support and a strategy focused on improving insulin sensitivity, it is possible to reverse the direction your health is heading.
