How Rosa Improved Her Blood Sugar in Days at the Mastering Diabetes Retreat

Meet Rosa. For years, she knew diabetes was something she needed to take more seriously.

Her mother had lived with diabetes and spent many years struggling with her health. Rosa had seen what the disease could look like over time. She developed gestational diabetes during her second pregnancy and continued experiencing problems with her blood sugar afterward. But the demands of life made it difficult to focus on her own health.

She was a working mother with a demanding, high-stress career. Doctor appointments often left her feeling criticized rather than supported, with conversations focused on what she was doing wrong and which medications she needed to take.

So for a long time, Rosa pushed her health to the side.

It was not until retirement gave her more time to focus on herself that she began seriously searching for another way forward. That journey eventually led her to Mastering Diabetes and, years later, to the Mastering Diabetes Retreat, where just a few days of immersive support helped her see blood sugar levels she hadn't seen in years.

Finding Mastering Diabetes at the Right Time

Rosa's perspective began to change after a serious fall left her with a badly broken ankle and months of recovery.

While confined to bed, she had something she rarely had during her career: time.

She began researching diabetes, watching videos, and learning everything she could about improving her health. During that search, she discovered Mastering Diabetes.

The testimonials caught her attention. Here were people who had experienced meaningful improvements in their blood sugar through changes in nutrition and lifestyle.

Rosa decided to try the approach herself.

At first, she did it largely on her own, learning through videos and putting the principles into practice from home. In six months, she lost 20 pounds and reduced her insulin needs enough that her physicians instructed her to lower both her insulin and Metformin dosages.

Those results proved something important to her. She knew she could improve her health.

Why Rosa Chose the Mastering Diabetes Retreat

After seeing what was possible on her own, Rosa enrolled in the Mastering Diabetes Coaching Program and worked with her coach for six months.

The additional support helped tremendously. But eventually, life changed again.

Retirement brought more travel, and traveling made maintaining the routines that had helped her successful much more difficult. Without the same structure and support, consistency became a challenge and her blood sugar began climbing again.

Then Rosa learned about the Mastering Diabetes Retreat.

Something immediately told her she needed to go. She knew attending would require an investment, but she also thought about the money she was willing to spend traveling and enjoying other experiences. Why shouldn't she make that same kind of investment in her health?

More importantly, Rosa had already learned something about herself. She knew the lifestyle worked. What she needed was support to help her make it consistent for the long term.

Rosa's Retreat Experience

The results would exceed her expectations.

Before

After

Blood sugar consistently high

Readings returned to her target range

Struggling with consistency

Renewed structure and support

Unsure if the changes were working

Real-time feedback from coaches

Managing largely on her own

Surrounded by expert guidance

Needed a health reset

Renewed confidence for the future

Within just days, Rosa watched her glucose move from consistently high readings into a range she had not seen in a long time. When she initially worried that the approach was not working, her coaches encouraged her to watch the trend rather than panic over individual readings. By the next day, she could see the difference for herself.

For Rosa, that immediate feedback was one of the most valuable parts of the retreat. She was not simply being told that eating more whole plant foods, including mango and papaya, could improve insulin sensitivity. She was experiencing the changes while surrounded by coaches who could help her understand exactly what was happening.

Learning to Look at the Trend, Not Just One Number

When Rosa saw a glucose reading she did not like early in the retreat, her first reaction was worry.

She thought it wasn't working. Her coach encouraged her to keep going.

She was doing the right things, he explained. Instead of reacting to a single reading, they would watch how her glucose trended as she continued eating the retreat meals and following the program.

That reassurance mattered. By the following day, Rosa's numbers had changed dramatically.

She also realized that some of her expectations about blood sugar had been unrealistic. In her mind, success meant keeping her glucose between 70 and 100 mg/dL at all times. Conversations with the coaches helped her better understand the ranges she was actually working toward and how to interpret the information she was seeing.

Instead of simply checking her glucose and deciding whether a number was "good" or "bad," Rosa was learning how to understand her body.

And she was doing it in real time.

Learning From More Than One Perspective

Rosa had already worked with her coach before the retreat, so seeing him in person gave her an immediate sense of familiarity and trust. But one of the things she appreciated most about the retreat was having access to an entire team.

In everyday life, it's easy to receive a narrow perspective. You might hear one opinion from a physician, another from a video, and another during a coaching session.

At the retreat, Rosa could learn from multiple experts throughout the day. Sometimes those insights came during formal sessions.

Other times, they happened naturally while sitting beside someone at lunch or walking together between activities.

Those conversations gave her ideas and perspectives she had never encountered before, even after years of learning about diabetes.

For Rosa, the expertise of the coaches was important, but so was their track record. She could see that they understood the lifestyle, understood diabetes, and knew how to help people put the information into practice.

Rediscovering Abundance With Food

Rosa also loved the food. In fact, she joked that she had seen more food at the retreat than she had in a long time.

Instead of tiny portions or meals that felt like diet food, she was presented with abundant whole-food, plant-based meals and told she could eat everything that had been prepared.

Mango. Papaya. Fresh plant foods. Meals that were both satisfying and aligned with her health goals.

She especially appreciated the work that went into preparing everything. All of the chopping, planning, and cooking had already been done, allowing her to simply experience what this way of eating could look like when implemented correctly.

And while she enjoyed the meals, her glucose readings were simultaneously moving in the direction she wanted.

That combination made the lesson difficult to ignore. The data was showing her what was happening.

Movement at Every Fitness Level

Exercise was another part of the retreat Rosa appreciated.

Rather than expecting every participant to perform at the same level, the workouts were designed to meet people where they were.

Someone who exercised regularly could challenge themselves. Someone just beginning could slow down and work at their own pace.

For Rosa, that flexibility made movement approachable instead of intimidating.

She described the exercise sessions as balanced and praised the instructors for recognizing that every attendee arrives at a different starting point.

That experience reinforced another lesson she could take home: improving health does not require comparing yourself to anyone else.

It requires consistently moving forward from wherever you are today.

Why This Investment Was About More Than Rosa

As Rosa has gotten older, the reason she wants to protect her health has become increasingly clear: Family.

Her mother lived with diabetes for many years and eventually required significant care. Rosa watched her sister take on much of that responsibility, an experience that was difficult for the entire family. Her sister later developed diabetes herself.

Rosa does not want to repeat that cycle.

She wants to see her children grow. She wants to watch their families grow. She wants to continue traveling and enjoying life. And she wants the years ahead to be healthy ones.

That is why she sees attending the retreat as more than paying for a few days away from home.

It is an investment in the quality of the life she still has ahead of her and in the people who share that life with her.

What Rosa Wants Others to Know

For anyone considering the retreat, Rosa's message centers on faith, hope, and recognizing what truly matters.

There will always be things to spend money and time on. Homes. Travel. Experiences. But taking care of your health can affect every other part of your life.

Rosa came to the retreat because she knew she needed support and consistency. Within days, she was seeing blood sugar numbers she had not seen in years, enjoying abundant food, moving at a level that worked for her, and learning directly from coaches who could answer questions as they happened.

Perhaps most importantly, she was reminded that improving her health was not something she was doing only for herself.

When she called her husband and told him how much her numbers had already improved, he was happy too.

Her health mattered to him. And that made the investment feel even more worthwhile.
