"I was diagnosed with Type 1 when I was 12 and continued eating a relatively healthy “western diet”. After years of struggling with various health problems I came across the Mastering Diabetes podcast in January 2018. After that I was focused and determined to get to the bottom of my diabetes health. In an effort to heal my kidneys and feet I needed “perfect control”. Insulin resistance was something I never even heard about in my 13 years of living with type one. I have slowly adapted this diet to what my body needs and wants. My A1C has dropped from a 7.3 to a 6.2 in 5 months. With the injections my daily totals average at about 20-25 units a day while consuming 500 to 700 grams of carbs. My blood sugar control and predictability is amazing and insulin sensitivity averages about 1:30. My neuropathy symptoms are improving, injuries are healing, and my kidney hasn’t bothered me in 4 months. Variability in diet, timing, and activity have a huge effect on my blood sugars. With time I continue to get better at utilizing my diet as my main tool to controlling this disease and healing my body. In my mind it is the answer to ensure you live a long, happy, and most importantly a healthy life! Keep pushing forwards!"

"If you had told me a few years ago that I would be eating nothing but green juice and fruits for breakfast every day I would have thought you were nuts. Things to change for my next event would be: 1) decrease my post-race basal by 30% for 12 hours and 20 decrease my post race boluses by 30% for 12 hours as I still tend to run low about 2 hours after meals.
