It’s Never Too Late to Take Back Your Health
After losing 45 pounds, 3.5% in his A1c, and his need for insulin at age 73… Bob is a walking poster child for the fact that it’s never too late to take back your health.
In March 2022, Bob’s health was in the worst shape it had ever been. His A1c was 9.7%, he weighed 247 pounds, he was taking insulin and a beta blocker, and he felt horrible.
The worst part was that he already knew what to do. He had overhauled his health ten years prior with astounding results. After watching Forks Over Knives in 2013, Bob switched to a whole food plant-based diet and lost 50 pounds. He also reversed his type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea, and brought his blood pressure down to a healthy range.
Unfortunately, he eventually wandered off track with his lifestyle habits. By March 2022, things had gotten bad. As sometimes happens, he’d ended up worse than where he’d started. But he also had a renewed resolve to get (and stay!) healthy. Time can make you wiser and show you what is truly important in life. Bob knew that he wanted to have not just a long lifespan but also healthspan. He wanted to be in good health for his family, including his grandchildren.
Bob learned about the Mastering Diabetes program and he purchased and read the book. In his words, it “was a huge eye-opener.” Even though he’d already been familiar with the importance of food choices for health, he learned more about the science of what causes insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, as well as how to support your body in turning that around.
Bob committed to the Mastering Diabetes method 100%. He set goals for lowering his A1c and his weight, and posted them on his fridge and bathroom mirror to remind himself every day. He had overhauled his health before, so he knew he could do it. He knew that progress would be slow and steady, and he was both confident and patient with the process.

Five months later, his weight was down to 203 pounds and his A1c was at 6.2%. He was completely off of insulin and his beta blocker had been reduced by 75%, from 25mg/day to 6 mg/day.
Bob is overjoyed with the results and excited to keep making further progress. He loves eating this way and especially loves how he feels. He knows that he will never fall back into his bad habits again.
