What foods can I eat on the Mastering Diabetes program?
More than 85 years of evidence-based research shows that eating low-fat, plant-based, whole-foods are the most effective approach to reversing insulin resistance many chronic diseases simultaneously.
We encourage you to eat a wide variety of fruits, non-starchy vegetables (tomatoes, eggplant, cucumbers, cauliflower, broccoli etc.), starchy vegetables (potatoes, squash, corn, turnips, parsnips, yams, etc.), legumes (beans, lentils, and peas), as well as whole grains (quinoa, oatmeal, brown rice, black rice, wild rice, millet, etc.).
Does this program work for all forms of diabetes?
Yes, our coaching program is designed to help you increase your insulin sensitivity and reduce your need for oral medication and insulin. We have ample experience with people living with both insulin dependent and non-insulin dependent diabetes, including type 1 diabetes, type 1.5 diabetes, prediabetes, and type 2 diabetes.
If you are living with insulin dependent diabetes, you are likely to reduce your need for both basal and bolus insulin by 20-60%.
If you are living with non-insulin dependent diabetes, you are likely to reduce or discontinue your use of diabetes oral medications.

Can I eat nuts on this program?
Yes, following our program you are allowed to eat nuts and seeds. Our program is not a no-fat diet, we simply recommend eating between 10-15% of your diet in total fat, coming from plant-based sources.
Does this program require eating a raw diet?
No, our program is designed to educate, support, and inspire you to eat a low-fat, plant-based, whole-food diet regardless of whether it is cooked, uncooked, or a combination of both.
The overwhelming majority of our clients eat a diet containing more than 60% cooked food, however some clients prefer to eat a diet that contains as little at 20% or 0% cooked food.
You are welcome to eat both cooked and raw food, however we suggest eating foods that are low in fat, strictly plant based, and unprocessed or minimally processed.
Can I drink caffeine or alcohol?
Our clients choose whether they would like to drink alcohol while following our program. We recommend reducing or eliminating alcohol altogether for maximum insulin sensitivity.
Caffeine is known to increase your blood glucose variability, however it tends to affect people on an individual basis. We recommend testing whether caffeine consumption affects your blood glucose.
